The 3rd annual amateur photography competition “Prospector. Miner. Metallurgist” is held alongside the “MINEX Central Asia 2014″ Mining and Mineral Exploration Forum (1-2 April 2014, Astana, Kazakhstan).

Participation in the competition is open free of charge to amateur photographers working in Central Asia.

STATUTES OF THE “PROSPECTOR. MINER. METALLURGIST” AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

  1. Amateur photography competition “Prospector. Miner. Metallurgist” is organised alongside MINEX Central Asia Mining and  Exploration Forum.
  2. Participation in the competition is free to amateur photographers working at the mining enterprises in Central Asia. The awards will be presented to the winners at the MINEX Central Asia 2014 Gala Dinner organised on 2 April at Radisson Astana Hotel in Kazakhstan.
  3. The Competition is managed by the MINEX Central Asia Forum Organising Committee.

COMPETITION OBJECTIVES

  1. Objective presentation of the mineral wealth and diversity of Central Asia’s mining and metals by people employed in the industry.
  2. Recording images of Central Asia’s mining and metals industry for present and future generations.
  3. Offering amateur photographers an open platform for exhibiting their works to wider international audiences and receiving peer recognition.

  1. “My Mine” – Industrial Landscape
  2. “Mining machinery and technologies” – Industrial composition
  3. “Caring for the Environment” – Industrial landscape or composition
  4. “Ores and Minerals” – Free genre composition
  5. “Proud to be Miner” – Individual or group portrait

COMPETITION NOMINATIONS AND PRIZES

  • Three finalists (the nominee) for each of the competition themes are determined prior to the Forum via online voting.
  • The works of the finalists (nominees) are announced on the competition website.
  • The maximum number of the nominees of the competition is 15.
  • Each finalist is awarded honorary diploma. Winners are determined from the finalists short list.
  • The maximum number of the prize winners is 3 (1st, 2nd and 3rd place). They are awarded with the Competition winner diploma and valuable prizes.
  • Presentation of the Competition diplomas and prizes are organised in a solemn ceremony at the Gala Dinner of "MINEX Central Asia 2014" to be held on 2nd April 2014 at the Radisson Astana, Kazakhstan.
  • The works the Competition finalists will be presented on the forum’s website and mining media associated with the forum.

Participation Terms 

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE COMPETITION

  1. Participation in the competition is open to amateur photographers employed in Central Asia's mining industry. The winners will be invited to receive the Awards at the MINEX Central Asia Gala Dinner organised on 2nd April at the Radisson Astana Hotel in Kazakhstan. Organising committee cannot reimburse travel and accommodation expenses of the competition winners wishing to attend the Awards presentation ceremony. Where nominee or winner cannot attend the Awards presentation ceremony, his/her nominee diploma or the Award will be posted by to the address indicated in the Application form submitted with the photographs.
  2. To participate in the Competition an application must be submitted with the high resolution photos.
  3. When required, photographers must seek company’s approval when submitting photographs of the mines and facilities operated by their mining company before entering the competition.
  4. Only works that have passed the preliminary selection and approval by the Forum Organising Committee will be accepted for participation in the Competition.
  5. Applicant can submit photographs for participation in several Competition categories.
  6. Applicant can submit no more than 5 (five) photographs.
  7. No more than 10 (ten) photographers from the same company can take part in the Competition.
  8. The maximum amount of photographs submitted to the competition – 1000.
  9. Photographs must be submitted royalty free. Applicants agree that the Competition organizers can use the photographs free of charge for producing media articles, announcements, press releases, as well as for artwork of printed and online products for MINEX Forum. All photographs, when possible will bear an indication of authorship.
  10. Deadline for entering the Competition: 14 March 2014

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PHOTOGRAPHS SUBMISSION

  1. Photographs submitted for the Competition must be the property of the applicant and be royalty free.
  2. Photographs must be submitted as JPEG in two formats: “Originals-High resolution” and “Preview – Low Resolution”.
  3. Each photograph should be accompanied by a brief description not exceeding 50 words. For example, “field XXXX XXX exploration of gold in the area. Summer of 2011 “or,” The introduction and launch of XXX XXX technology at XXX company. Winter 2010″, or “mining engineer at XXX XXX XXX at XXX field in XXXX. Spring 2012 “or” XXX mineral. XXX deposit”.
  4. Applicant must submit full name, company name, best contact telephone number and email address.
  5. Requirements for the original photos: format – JPG, size – up to 2448h1632 4896 × 3264 px.
  6. Requirements for photos in preview mode – JPG, size – from 800×600 to 1024×768 px px.
  7. The photographs with the date in the corner of the photo, as well as imprinted with the copyright and various labels cannot be accepted.
  8. Duplicate or slightly modified photographs (for example one frame in the color and the other in black / white version, as well as similar photos) cannot be accepted.
  9. For the message about the authorship of photographs please use the metadata formats EXIF, IPTC / XMP saved in the image property.
  10. Photographs that do not meet the above requirements for participation in the Competition will not be accepted.

THE EVALUATION CRITERIA

The photographs submitted for the Competition must meet the following requirements:

  • Comply with the Competition themes.
  • Photo quality (focus, the balance of light and shade, composition, etc.).
  • Original content.

COMPETITION PROCEDURE

  1. Approved Photographs will be posted on the Competition Website and presented for internal voting by the Forum Organising Committee.
  2. Organizing Committee can make a decision to award a special prize presented by the Competition partners and sponsors of which the contestants will be informed.
  3. The winners will be announced at the Gala dinner which will be held on April 2 at the Radisson Hotel in Astana. The works of the finalists may also be published in the media reports and articles published after the forum by Media partners.
  4. The list of Competition winners will be published on the MINEX Forum websites.
