Graduate of the Military University of the Russian Ministry of Defense. He also holds an M.B.A. degree in Strategic Management. Fluent in Arabic and English.
Before taking the lead over the Russian state-owned geological company “Rusgeology” Roman Panov was the Director of the International Production Assets Department of the Mining Metallurgical Company Norilsk Nickel. As the Head of this Department from 2009 to 2013 he was supervising Company’s production assets abroad and was engaged in business expansion implementation of investment projects in other countries, including South Africa, Botswana and Australia. Prior to joining Norilsk Nickel, from 2007 to 2009 Roman Panov held a position of the Deputy Head, Head of Investment Project Department of Gazprom Invest-Vostok Company which is the customer for Gazprom’s investment projects implementation as part of the Development Program for an integrated gas production, transportation and supply system in Eastern Siberia and the Far East taking into account potential gas exports to the markets of China and other Asia-Pacific countries. In the period from 2003 to 2007 he served as the Head of science and technology programs of the Economic and scientific technical relations department under the Russian Foreign Ministry and subsequently as the Head of the Department of scientific and technical programs and business ties of the Russian Foreign Centre in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Cairo. In accordance with the Decree of the Head of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev №944-r, as of June 10, 2013 Roman Panov was appointed General Director of JSC "Rusgeology."
